Bird Photography Weekly #88

Black-and-White Warbler, Mniotilta varia

Far from being a rare warbler or even difficult to find (especially in New England), these sharp little monochromatic birds are certainly a welcome site each year, heralding the larger numbers of migrants that flood into, and through, our area.  Behaving something like a nuthatch, these birds will creep along the branches and trunks of trees in search of small insects in the nooks and crannies of the bark, occasionally stopping for a moment to sing their "squeaky wheel" song that is among the first warbler songs that most birds learn to recognize.
