Bird Photography Weekly #23

Female Elegant Trogon - Trogon elegans

This week I am in Trinidad & Tobago, so I am scheduling my Bird Photography Weekly post in advance. I am sure that I'll have plenty of photos to post when I return.

One family of birds that I am hoping to see a few species of while there is the trogons. There is only member of trogon family that is seen with any regularity in the US and that is the Elegant Trogon, which I have been fortunate enough to see a few times now in Arizona. This photo is of a female that I digi-binned in Madera Canyon a few years ago. The bright, gaudy males seem to get the most attention, but the soft female plumage, with that white "teardrop" is quite beautiful too.
