Bird Photography Weekly #51

Hudsonian Godwit (Limosa haemastica)

One of the shorebirds that we look forward to seeing in "fall" migration here in New England is the Hudsonian Godwit. It is one of two members of the godwits that come through here in August. (The other is the Marbled Godwit, although it is not found as commonly or in the same numbers as the Hudsonian)
This particular individual was particularly cooperative, as it plunged that long rapier of a bill into the sand again and again searching for food just 20 ft away from us.

(More about this bird and other shorebirds that we saw on Saturday's trip to South Beach in Chatham, MA in my next post)
