Ruby Meadowhawk
Another day with dragonfly photos. This is a member of the Sympetrum Meadowhawk dragonflies, but according to my "Field Guide to the Dragonflies and Damselflies opf Massachusetts," the White-faced, Ruby and Cherry-faced Meadowhawks are virtually indistinguishable in the field.
I don't think this is Cherry-faced based on location - as they are apparently rare in eastern MA, and the face doesn't seem quite "pure" enough to be White-faced" but hey- what do I know, other than I like seeing and photographing them!
OH - I should mention that if you click on the photos you can see larger versions of them - and I do recommend doing so!
